Everywhere on our planet people are suffering from tourism overload. In more and more tourist destinations locals started to protest against the effects of “over-tourism” like the destruction of local business and rising costs of living (houses, food).
One of the sources of the impopular part of tourism is cheap early booking, causing group-travel attractive for a bunch of party seekers. Introduced massively by EasyJet in the ninetees, offering cheap tickets months before the flight changed the character of tourism. At that time I designed a door sticker for local bars in Amsterdam:
Bouncers could point with their finger to this sign while blocking the entrance for groups of noisy youngsters and pub-crawls.
Thirty years later most local governments are still not working on effective solutions. A ban on cheap early booking tickets could be a major improvement in the quality of tourism in a lot of places. For this reason we started the sticker campaign “No Groups”. Soon you can order these stickers and other items like shirts and coats. So check back.
